The Applications Engineer is required to give product sales support and communicate technical requirements. The individual must be self-driven to research, understand customer needs, and determine the overall technical solution. This individual coordinates internal resources in order to set up and deliver compelling presentations and demonstrations, is responsible for responding to customer questions and inquiries, and must understand the customer’s specifications to determine product solutions that will provide the most value.

The Applications Engineer reviews performance requirements, delivery schedules, and estimates of costs of material, equipment, and production to ensure completeness and accuracy. Prepares bids, process specifications, and progress reports, as well as other exhibits that may be required. Requests or approves amendments to or extensions of purchase orders. Advises planning and production departments of contractual rights and obligations, compiles data for preparing estimates and coordinates work of Sales Department with Engineering, Design, Production and Shipping Departments to implement fulfillment of contracts.

Confers with engineers, managers, customers, and others to discuss projects, prepare quotations, coordinate submittals, provide technical advice, and resolve problems. Reviews status reports and maintains schedules as required, and prepares project reports for management, clients, or others. The Applications Engineer plans and coordinates preparation of project documentation, such as engineering drawings, production specifications and schedules, as well as contract modifications, to ensure customer contract requirements are met. Determines documentation required for each phase of the project, applying knowledge of engineering and manufacturing processes.

The responsibilities of the Applications Engineer also include making presentations on technical products to potential clients, answering technical queries, providing advice for potential and current clients, and helping develop sales strategies based on their knowledge of the product. The Applications Engineer is expected to travel on a regular basis to meet with clients.

The Applications Engineer uses a consultative style of communication, whereby they determine the exact technical needs of the client and provide a solution with the company’s products, based on their own engineering knowledge and background. The individual also applies an engineering mindset to the business of recommending products. The emphasis of the work varies depending on the level of technical knowledge needed on any specific project or order to promote products and services and respond effectively to clients’ inquiries. To ensure clients’ needs are met, the Applications Engineer interfaces regularly with colleagues from all other departments within the company, including sales, research, development, design, engineering, purchasing, production, and quality, as well as senior company managers.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Responsible for development and delivery of product demonstrations.
  • Responsible for representing the product to customers and at field events such as conferences, seminars, tradeshows, etc.
  • Able to respond to functional and technical elements of RFQs/RFPs/ITTs.
  • Attracts potential customers by answering product and service questions, suggesting information about other products and services.
  • Recommends potential products or services to management by collecting customer information and analyzing customer needs.
  • Preparing, designing and planning effective professional product demonstrations.
  • Continuously updating all customers on company product modifications, changes, and enhancements.
  • Assists in the preparation of quotations, proposals, and Sales Orders.
  • Able to work in fast-paced, self-directed professional environment.
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams.
  • Cooperating with Sales Manager to determine essential strategic approaches for sales.
  • Attending production meetings concerning existing orders, reporting on customer expectations and overall project status.
  • Functional implementation of Conax Nuclear’s NQA Program, including review/interpretation of customer Purchase Order requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent Communication skills (written and oral), as well as carry out responsibilities with minimal direction.
  • Must be comfortable in the dynamic atmosphere of a technical organization with a geographically dispersed domestic and international customer base.
  • Must possess strong presentation skills and be able to communicate professionally in written responses to emails, and RFQs/RFPs.
  • Organizational and analytical skills required, with the ability to eliminate obstacles through creative and adaptive approaches.
  • Detail-oriented and skilled negotiator with a high level of initiative and the ability to work well within a team environment.
  • 3+ years relevant experience in product applications and project management.
  • Bachelors in engineering or a related field is required.
